A chief of nephrology at Hackensack University Medical Center has been using an experimental device for high blood pressure patients. It is surgically implanted and is similar to a pace-maker called the Rheos. Leads are placed on the cartoid arteries in the neck, they deliver low-level electrical stimulation that signals the brain to lower blood pressure. Dr. Ackad is excited about the procedure because it eliminates the need for medications that can affect other organs unnecessarily. Patients are released within a few days and are back on their feet.
